While we're all wiping the sleep from our eyes Sunday, members of the High River Fire Department will be in full turn out gear climbing the stairs at the Bow building in downtown Calgary.

They've taken part in the Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge every year since it started in 2015.

This year the department has two teams, one with four members and the other with two.

High River Firefighters who completed last year's climb.

Those who'll be chugging their way up the stairs include Capt. Brent McGregor, and Firefighters Bradely Rugg, Austen Tanney, Jenaye Watson, Derek Witteman and Sameer Shakya.

Anyone who's interested in donating to the cause can do so from the website towards either team (HRFD 1 or HRFD 2) or any individual firefighter.

Calgary’s Bow Building is Western Canada’s tallest building and the highest elevation in the world, with the climb being done in support of Wellspring Calgary to raise awareness and funds for firefighters and all citizens living with cancer.

There are 775 vertical feet, or 1204 steps, in the Bow Building. Starting at 3400 feet above sea level, this climb is the highest elevation stairclimb in the world! Firefighters will have the opportunity to be timed wearing their full duty gear, including provided SCBA packs, without air.
