Empty shelves and bare cupboards is an ongoing problem for many families in High River and the surrounding area.

It's even a bigger problem when the Salvation Army Food Bank shelves end up bare.

Lt. Kelly Fifield says they are very grateful for the recent food drives, but they really need some more help.

"I often find at this time our stock gets rather low," said Fifield. "But with the challenges and demand that we are seeing right now of those in need of the food bank, we are at a point where we are seeing some empty shelves."

The food bank puts out a top ten list every week that they post on the front door of the Salvation Army Family Services centre.

They really need things like rice, meal kits like hamburger helper, tuna helper, kraft dinner, raman noodles, pasta in a can and soups.

"Or anything creamed, cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of celery, because those are all things that you can use to make multiple meals."

The food bank has about 20 families a week coming in for help, and over 110 families a month, including five new families in March.

To make it easy to donate there are drop off locations at each of the grocery stores.

"if you are out grocery shopping pick up something extra and throw it in the bins," said Fifield

The more people can help do that the more it helps fill the shelves.

"We really, really appreciate it."
