Foodies can rejoice as food truck season is upon us but first those trucks need to pass inspections.

A food truck inspection blitz is taking place in High River where inspectors will be on site from Okotoks, Black Diamond, Turner Valley, High River, and the MD of Foothills.

Fire Prevention Officer with the High River Fire Department, Clayton Rutberg, says rules for each municipality can be a bit different but they're trying to standardize it.

"They do need an inspection to come into High River or Okotoks so they can operate their food trucks," he explains. "In a lot of municipalities it's a part of the business licensing process that they have a successful fire inspection."

Rutberg says there's a list they go through during these inspections.

"We check their fire extinguishers, various cooking systems they have, and make sure their food trucks essentially meet all the requirements of the fire code and that they're safe to be out there cooking in our communities."

The food truck inspection blitz takes place Wednesday, May 9 and Thursday, May 17 at the High River Fire Hall from 1-to-4 p.m. both days.
