The M.D. of Foothills has finished their Flood Scoping Study, and is preparing to release the details to land-owners affected in the M.D. Senior Planner Julie McLean says the project identified how land-owners could be affected by the Town of High River's flood mitigation efforts.

"We hired Worley Parsons and Amec to take a look at the Highwood and Little Bow rivers and determine where the flood hazards are and what the impacts of the mitigation work that the Town of High River has done are on land-owners in the M.D."

She says there are about 500 land-owners could be affected, including 200 who may be directly impacted.

"So people whose properties were inundated in 2013 and would likely still be inundated, those we would consider to be directly impacted."

McLean says impacted land-owners will be contacted by mail, and those invited to open houses on May 26 and 30 will be split up geographically.

"We're directly mailing all the land-owners that we've identified, and then we would post on our website as well advertising these two open house events that we'd like to hold. We'll be dividing them up geographically, south of High River for one event and North of High River for the other."

McLean says the diking done by the Town of High River has made a significant change to the flow split of the Highwood and Little Bow rivers.
