The Salvation Army Foothills is looking for volunteers to help make the holiday season bright for those in need.

Bell ringers are needed for their annual Christmas Kettle Campaign as well as volunteers to help assemble hampers.

Lieutenant Chad Cole says the seasonal campaign goes a long way for the organization.

"The money that we raise from that goes towards our family services and our food bank to serving all those within the Foothills municipal district and the money we raised last year during our six week campaign lasted us for six months so it's a very important fundraiser."

In Okotoks, kettles will be set up at Walmart and Sobeys, and if there's enough volunteers, Costco and Save On Foods as well.

In High River, kettles can be found at Co-op, Sobeys, and No Frills.

Cole adds volunteers play an important role in the organization.

"We count on the generosity of the volunteers that help us at the Salvation Army. That's one of the key ways that we're able to return 86 cents of every dollar donated back into community programming by partnering with people that are sharing their time with us so that we can keep our overhead costs low and able to provide as many services as we can."

The Christmas Kettle Campaign kicks off Nov. 23 and runs Mon.- Sat. each week up until Christmas.

Those looking to sign up as a volunteer can contact Katrina Cockle, Kettle Coordinator at the Salvation Army Foothills, at (403) 652-2195.
