The Foothills School Division is looking forward to receiving its portion of the federal education grant announced last week.

Superintendent Chris Fuzessy says they only got the particulars during their Wednesday September 2 board meeting.

"What we do know about that funding thus far is that we're receiving a little over $2.8 million, I think it's $2,864,000, we'll receive that in two instalments," he says.

He says the division's costs have certainly increased to make sure schools are safe and welcoming and that's where the money will go although they haven't had a chance to talk about specifics.

Assistant superintendent Drew Chipman says some of that money will help with Hub@Home, the division's online learning program.

"Just under 700 students signed up for that, the one to nine piece of that is new for us and so that enables us to hire some staff to make sure that that's going to go well," Chipman says.

The federal government says the grant money has to be used for COVID related expenses.
