Bus Driver Appreciation Day has come and gone, but it is never too late to thank the drivers who keep students in the Foothills School Division safe every day.

Superintendent of Schools John Bailey says after the driving conditions drivers had to deal with, it was important to thank them.

Trustees, principals and Bailey handed out small gifts to each driver on May 9th.

Bailey personally talked with 12 drivers at Highwood High School.

"It was very well received," said Bailey. "They had no idea it was coming so some of them looked a little nervous when I walked up to the bus at first."

He added the division certainly appreciates the work of all of our bus drivers do day in and day out.

"We had arranged different people, trustees and myself, and in a couple of schools we didn't have enough bodies so the principals did it and we just gave them a little token of appreciation to the bus drivers."

Foothills buses travel over 2.3 million km. every year, not including field trips.

'When we look at the very, very low number of incidents we have, we appreciate our bus drivers and we appreciate drivers who respect our buses as well and the safety of our students."
