Open Farm Days is back again this weekend.

The CEO of the Alberta Ag Societies, Tim Carson, says there's plenty for visitors to see, do, and even taste while they pay a visit to an Alberta farm.

"The different types of livestock that you'll be able to get up close to and see as well as the machinery that is out there, there's a tremendous number of long table dinners and barbeques and food samplings, the freshest food you'll find," he says.

There are over a hundred sites to visit across Alberta with more than a dozen in the local area from Millarville to Nanton.

"We've got two pillars we stand on for Open Farm Days, the first one is our ability to connect with our producers of our great agricultural products here in Alberta to the consumers, so the chance to meet the farmer, find out where your food comes from, talk about all those interesting pieces around how production works, whether we're talking about grains and pulses or we're talking about livestock, really having that behind-the-scenes interaction with the actual farmer," Carson says.

"The other pillar is, this is an amazing province and rural tourism is something that we're really trying to continue to develop and the rural communities and the places where our producers actually work is tremendous."

There are about 30 new farms taking part this year so if you've been out before in one of the previous eight Open Farm Days there'll still be somewhere new to visit.

There is a list of participating farms on the Open Farm Days website, including maps and ways to get in touch with the farm operators to let them know you're coming.
