Discussion is ongoing over what will be the future of the two proposed high school sites for the Foothills School Division.

One site was earmarked for Aldersyde with the other to be placed on the north end of Okotoks.

Many concerns have risen from community members in regards to the Aldersyde site over safety with the commute required to get to the area as well as questions over making sure both sites would address future growth needs.

Drew Chipman, assistant superintendent of the Foothills School Division, says the division met with the Town of Okotoks, MD of Foothills, Christ The Redeemer School Division, and Francophone boards again last week.

"We had a great meeting, I think we're agreeing on how to move forward with planning so we're ready for the growth everybody believes is going to happen in this area so we're excited about how that's going to look moving forward and we're continuing to work with them the best we can."

Chipman says currently plans are still moving forward with the Aldersyde site.

"At this point that's where we're at but we're still talking with the Town and the provincial government but that's what's on the books at this point," he says. "If there's changes we'll certainly be notifying everybody as soon as we can."

Plans originally called to have the Aldersyde school construction break ground in spring 2016.
