The Town of High River has received the first of two annual federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) installments.

In total, the province will be provided with over $219 million this year through the fund.

High River will receive close to $700 thousand.

Shaye Anderson, Minister of Alberta Municipal Affairs, says this money is used to support and invest in local infrastructure.

"Investments in local infrastructure creates jobs, strengthens communities, and have a lasting impact on families and neighbours."

Since the program was first introduced in 2005, over $2.1 billion has been provided to Alberta.
