With the Black Diamond By-Election coming on Monday, there's only one councillor's chair to fill and two people running for it.

David Geske and Brian Marconi will be on the ballot when the polls open vying for the seat left after Michael Jackson stepped down.

Geske says he hopes to make a difference if elected to Town Council.

"I love this town," he says. "I moved from Calgary about five years ago and it's exceeded my wildest expectations I really truly love it! I've been volunteering here for a number of years in a number of capacities including the last three on the economic development committee and I think I can help, I know I can help."

Amalgamation is a hot topic going into the election and even prior to it as it looks like there will be a vote down the road to possibly merge Black Diamond and Turner Valley as one town.

Geske says there needs to be plenty of due diligence done to inform the community what is exactly happening when it comes to the subject.

"There are a lot of differences in these two towns. Lot of similarities who do a lot of great things together but there's a lot of emotion, difference and challenges you need to overcome which are more than financial challenges. The last thing you want to do is to rush into that without great citizen consultation."

With his recent involvement while volunteering Geske hope the community will get behind him on election day.

"It's all about the ability for me to bring together this council and get to agree that we need a lot of citizen engagement. I've been doing that in my career for 30 years I bring teams together and I solve problems so I'm looking forward to doing that here."

Polls open at 10 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. Monday.

There's only one polling station and it's at the Town Office.
