Getting in shape can be fun and free in High River if you know where to go. There are still things you can do as a family without breaking the bank.

Community Program Supervisor Cynthia Farrow says numbers are up at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex.

"We find that the numbers of walkers are increasing right now, although it's beautiful out it can be dangerous and slippery. People want to get in shape and get ready for the Spring. We've got lane swim going on and some triathlon training, and a lot of people are using that as a way to get in shape as well."

She says the two lane walking track is open daily from 6 A.M. until 9 P.M.

Farrow says runners and walkers of all fitness levels are welcome at the facility.

"Sundays we have free swimming, skating and sport time on the Field House floor. We have Instructors helping to organize sports for kids. We really encourage families to come out and try a little bit of everything and have fun."

She says the free activities are from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M.

High River Library Director Deb Gardiner says you can now borrow snow shoes and walking poles with your library card.

"It gives you access to all kinds of wonderful things at the library. Between the snow shoes and the walking poles, e-books, digital downloads of music and of course magazines and books, It's just a bargain."

She says the cost of a library card is $15 for an adult, $3 for children and students, and $25 for a family.

She says a library card is valid for one year from the date of purchase.
