High River will host the Southern Alberta Open Pickleball Tournament on April 22 - 24 at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex.

Organizer Brian Popowitch says the sport started back in 1962 but is making a huge comeback.

"Pickleball is a combination of tennis and badminton, it's played indoors and outdoors. We have two courts in High River that are outdoors but our facility here at the Cargill Field House has nine indoor courts and is second to none, it's one of the finest facilities in Southern Alberta."

He says it was an easy decision to hold the event here.

"The Southern Alberta Open Pickleball Tournament on April 22 - 24 will bring about one hundred players into town and they will be high calibre players."

He says the sport started in 1962 and he's teaching all ages how to play now.

"You have to let the ball bounce before you hit it, it's not a tennis ball or a racquet ball, it's a wiffle ball. You have to go to the ball, the ball doesn't come to you."

He says people are welcome to register but spaces are filling up fast.
