Students at Highwood High School had a bit of fun on Friday with the finals in the go-cart races.

Eight teams competed during the week and on Friday it came down to a battle between Grade 11 students on team Four Square against the Warriors from Grade 9.

And the twist was they had to wear drunk goggles, provided by the RCMP, while racing.

Dustin Millar and McCall Edmonds were on the winning team the 4 Squares and their advice with the goggles was to not try to focus while driving.

The races were part of the mental health month activities that took place in May.

Principal Bryan Brandford says along with the fun they had, there were some lessons to be learned.

"We brought in the Canadian Mental Health Association they talked to all the kids about stress, and anxiety and suicide," said Brandford.

He added the feedback from the students was very positive.

Educational Assistant Elmone Sims says they did several activities to bring mental health into discussions over the month.

Several students working with councillors typed up their personal stories which were posted on a bulletin board, while protecting their identities.

"We have a lot of students with anxiety and they talked about that," said Sims.

They started off with two stories and now have 11 posted.

The Warriors from Grade 9 include Ryan Lanz, Kieran Burn, Nidal Rakib and Kaden Hamelin.

Four Squares from Grade 11 include Dallas Bolvin, Dustin Miller, Gregory Piasta and McCall Edmonds.
