A lack of registrations has put the Proposed Grade 5 French Immersion program on hold for a year.

The Foothills School Division is still hoping they can get 20 to 25 students to sign up for the program to run at Percy Pegler School in Okotoks in 2019.

French Immersion Facilitator, Lesley Dell, says parents might need more time before committing to second entry point.

"We are committed to looking into this next year," said Dell. "Hopefully by that time people will have time to reflect on it and know that is something that they certainly want for their families. So our fingers are crossed."

She adds they are disappointed that they didn't have enough students enrolled to offer it this year, but the School Board and the Executive team are committed to offer it again next year.

She adds they are only offering it at one school to get it started for a number of reasons.

"It is better to only start a program within one school and pilot it. We have a good support system at Percy Pegler  because it already is a French Immersion school from K right thorugh to 6 and we have an experienced administration team as well."
