Post secondary education isn't cheap so it's good news that there are grants in place to make it a little easier.

Director of Bow Valley College in High River June Diment says there's money out there and qualifying for it isn't as hard as you might think.

"If someone is coming straight out of high school they're eligible for a Rutherford Scholarship if they have done their high school education, grades ten through twelve in Alberta. That can be worth up to $2,500 right off the bat."

She reminds us this will be the last year of the Transitions to Higher Education Grant which is in place to help residents affected by the 2013 flood and usually sees students receiving upwards of $4,500.

Diment says they've had over one hundred people in High River and the surrounding areas go through that program.

Starting August 1, 2016 the Canada Student Grants have also been increased by 50% to help low-to-mid income students get through school.

She says they can also help to find what's out there for you too.

"If they would like to get up to $4,500 worth of scholarships plus some serious counseling to help them make the right program choice and work out their learning styles and how to manage time and financial planning they should really sign up."
