A scary afternoon for two farms in the Gladys Ridge area Wednesday.

A grass fire broke out near 128 St. East and 370th Ave.

The blaze spread around one field but never reached either of the residences in close proximity to the fire.

The M.D. of Foothills Fire Department along with the Okotoks Fire Department responded to the scene and now have the fire under control that was estimated to have spread to 30 acres in size, damaging eight power poles and 80 fence posts.

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says no ignition source was found in their investigation of the fire but is reminding everyone to be aware of the dry conditions and put out smoking material in a safe and proper manner.

The M.D. of Foothills does currently have a complete fire ban in place and won't be lifted until there is sufficient moisture.
