With a week of hot weather in the forecast and no rain in sight grass fires could start to be a concern in the Foothills.
A fire along the rail line, south of the Aldersyde Petro Can, on July 5th, consumed about three-quarters of an acre.
Okotoks Deputy Fire Chief Pat MacIsaac says it could have been a lot worse.
"We responded with two fire trucks and support vehicles and six firefighters," said MacIsaac."It was about three-quarters of an acre in the ditch."
He added the wind was a bit of a problem at first.
"The highway crews and the campers helped out first. They had fire extinguishers on it and were working on it when we got there, so they deserve a lot of the credit."
With a week of hot weather rolling in, and no rain in sight grass fires could be a problem.
"We are keeping a pretty close eye on what the province is saying about fire risk and we are watching it from a local perspective as well."
