A fire just West of Okotoks had five different fire departments very busy Thursday afternoon.

The blaze was a barn and grass fire just off 80th St. W near 402 Ave, just Southwest of the Okotoks Erratic.

M.D. of Foothills Fire Chief Jim Smith says at first, they had conflicting reports of what was happening.

"We've had reports to start with that it was an outside fire, then it was a barn fire, then it was a barn and outside fire, fencing and corralling, all that stuff," he says. "So we came in with some initial fire-fighting apparatus, but then we had to quickly change because it turned into a grass fire."

The fire came just one day after the M.D. implemented a full fire ban, and Smith says it goes to show just how easy it is for fires to start right now.

"It is really extremely dry conditions," he says. "The fire was very, very fast moving, especially with the wind out here (Thursday). The per cent dryness of this is under 20 per cent relative humidity, so the fire just moved that much quicker, because everything's pretty dried out."

Smith says there were no injuries as a result of the fire, and at this time the cause is unknown.
