A unique experience for visitors at Kayben Farms in Okotoks on Tuesday morning.

Alberta Guide Dogs was on site with a few puppies performing obedience training and to interact with children and farm animals to help gain more experience.

Sandra Cramer, puppy raising supervisor for Alberta Guide Dogs, says Kayben was the perfect location for their training.

"The farm animals are a huge distraction for most dogs so to make sure our clients are safe in any type of situation they have to be exposed to this and unfortunately most of the facilities out there don't let dogs onto their grounds and with Kayben letting us on it was a fabulous opportunity for us."

The puppies were being trained to act as guide dogs for those who are visually impaired or have moderate to severe autism.

Cramer says the new recruits did great.

"We've got three little ones, they're all three months old, and one of the older ones. We find that for the little ones it's such a great opportunity when they're so young to get them exposed to this and they are doing fantastic."

Alberta Guide Dogs, located out of Kensington in Calgary, is looking for more puppy raisers.

Puppy raisers are volunteers who raise the dogs for about a year and a half in their homes and get them prepared to go into advanced training.
