High River Town Council has defeated Lansdowne Equity Ventures' request for an extension for the Hampton Hills Phase 3 Subdivision. Lansdowne's deadline to submit a plan of subdivision expired in October 2014, and Director of Engineering, Planning and Operations Riley McKerracher says now they'll need to submit a new application.

"Because they had asked for the extension after it had expired, was the reason it had to go to council. The next step is we'll have to notify the applicant. Then the applicant, should they wish to proceed, they'll have to re-apply for the subdivision."

He says it will be good to see the developer submit a new application.

"The one advantage of having the extension not granted is that the developer, when they re-apply, we will then place new conditions on it. It'll update it, it'll clean up the file. It should be a lot more straight-forward and less complicated moving forward now."

McKerracher says the application has had some complications since 2013.

"The subdivision's been complicated with a number of issues. It was originally applied for immediately after the flood. There was conditions placed on the subdivision because of the flood which were later appealed, and then there was a number of conditions from the Subdivision Appeal Board."

He says things will be easier moving forward, with none of the legacy issues with the appeal board on the new application.
