Members of the community are helping others donate to the Veterans Food Bank in Calgary this Remembrance Day Weekend.

Okotoks Realtor Jay Magnussen along with Adam Woodward are stepping up to deliver when others may not be able to.

Woodward started the initiative after simply seeing the story of the empty shelves at the Veterans food Bank and it was his son who asked how can they make a difference.

"My nine year old was watching the news two or three weeks ago before school and he just pointed out he goes 'look at this dad' and it was this story about the empty food bank shelves for the veterans," he says.

Woodward says the food pick-ups really becomes an Uber service for those who just can't make it to the Food Bank to drop items off.

"Everybody's got all these great intentions and it's all over social media about how there's no food down at the food bank but if you got in your car and drove around and picked up food for people that simply didn't have the time or were going to do something that day or whatever reason they had. Then you can make it easy for people to donate."

He says it's quite simple to get a pick-up arranged.

"All you got to do is shoot us a message with where your address is and put a box or bag of donated food that you want to give to the Veterans Food Bank. We'll pick it up, drop it off and send you a follow up picture of the drop off just so you know.
