Foothills Catholic Immigrant Services are off to a good start in their brand new location.

After a successful open house Friday it's back to work helping newcomers integrate into the community and to Canada.

Janelle Richardson is a Schools Settlement Worker and runs the Now program.

"The Now program works with children and youth with-in the two school divisions, both the Catholic and the public, to do a youth leadership program called Youth Cultural Ambassadors, and these Youth Cultural Ambassadors work to create welcoming and inclusive schools," Richardson says. "We do all kinds of things from welcoming new students by giving school tours, which are all student led as well as taking other opportunities to make sure that the school is accessible to all people."

She says among the other student led initiatives, they've translated and video taped school newsletters and put them on the web to keep parents who may not speak English informed.
