High River Ford is set to send a truckload of goods to evacuated Fort McMurray residents.

They put out the call for donations Friday and High River residents responded donating water, pet food and other basic essentials to help evacuees get through the next few days and weeks.

Dealership Owner Paul Morrison says getting the donations is just part of the battle.

"I think the important part is making sure everything gets to where it needs to go. There's an effort to get some supplies right through to EMT. And there's going to be a second effort to be able to go over long term supplies. So, we're excited about that."

Morrison says they'll send up what they have now, but have also engaged with other businesses in High River in a longer term effort to make sure displaced residents have access to necessary items.

Morrison is also encouraging people to give to the Red Cross by texting to 30333.
