After a lot of discussion, and a bit of confusion, High River council has granted Dream Development a two-year extension for Phase 2 of the Montrose sub-division.

The developer cited the economy and the lack of progress on the southwest berm as a couple reasons lots aren't moving.

Councillor Emile Blokland says, while the developer's been great to work with over the last several years, he doesn't believe the length of term for the extension will make a difference.

"In my mind I just don't think anything's going to change in the next year, or two tears or possibly three years," Blokland says. "I think it's important that we keep all our sub-division approvals and documentation current and that's what the issue is here as this dates back to 2008, this sub-division agreement needs to be reviewed and brought current."

Mayor Craig Snodgrass asked the developer for any assistance they could give in pushing the berm project forward.

"That things got to go in next year, I know I'm a broken record, I wish I wasn't but it's a reality of what we're dealing with and you know, granting these guys a two-year extension to see things through is completely fair in my mind," Mayor Snodgrass says.

After the two year period, if registration of the lots hasn't taken place the developer would have to reapply for a development permit.
