High River Town Council allocated $24,000 to Family Community Support Services this week, to allow them to maintain the half-time position of a Community Support Worker. Council voted against this expenditure in the 2016 budget, but Councillor Bruce Masterman says it was easy to change his mind.

"It was a great presentation. Shelley does a wonderful job for FCSS and always has, and she has just such compassion for the people that are touched by what they do. It was really a no-brainer for me to go back."

Masterman says Shelley Koot, Manager of Community Support Services, gave a presentation that will make him think a little harder next time council considers cuts to FCSS.

"I mean, it's a half-position it's not a lot of money here. But, I had supported that back in the budget talks. And like many of the others I don't know what I was thinking of because it's really an important position and to me it was a no-brainer to flip-flop on it."

He says sometimes council needs reminders of the town's human side.

"I think council needs reminding every now and then, the human side of High River and the wants. As Councillor Couey was saying, the things that help make this community healthy."

Masterman says he loves that Shelley Koot likes to fly under the radar with FCSS and let the community shine, but she needs to make sure the people of High River know how important it is that their money is going toward this program.
