High River's Fire Chief was among 150 remarkable Canadians recognized yesterday by Governor General David Johnston in Vancouver.

The second bar to the Fire Services Exemplary Service medal was presented to Len Zebedee in recognition of his 40 years of service to public safety in Canada.

The medals recognize men and women who are dedicated to preserving Canada’s public safety through long and outstanding service.

Foothills MP John Barlow said he is extremely proud to see Chief Zebedee recognized for his dedication to High River and his commitment to the fire department and his family.

Barlow says Len, his wife Pat, and his family have always been incredibly committed to the High River community and he can think of no one more deserving of the Exemplary Service medal.

He added Zebedee's selfless and tireless effort during the 2013 flood was an inspiration to everyone.
