It was a very busy year for the High River Fire Department as they responded to 833 calls, up from 671 the year before.

Fire Chief Len Zebedee says they had a busy year.

"A good percentage of those calls are medical calls," said Zebedee. "When an ambulance is 10 minutes or further out we get called to do a backup."

In 2017 they responded to 514 medical calls, which he adds is 12 per cent more than last year.

So far though the department is keeping staffing on the same level.

"We are going to hold our manpower to the same level as the last two years. We will see what out call volume is again this year."
