No matter how times are tough in the Foothills area, generous souls ensure the Salvation Army Food Bank can continue to meet the demands of people who need a little bit of extra help.

"We've seen a lot of community support over the last few months," said Lieutenant Kelly Fifield. "Where people have just stepped up and done different food drives and fundraisers for us."

She says they are feeling very blessed and grateful for support from the community.

"We are seeing the food come off of our shelves pretty quickly, so as fast as it is coming in it is going out."

The food bank posts a top-ten list on the front door every week to let people know what they need donated and there are bins at all the groceries stores to add items to while you are shopping.

If people are out grocery shopping and see something they know is a staple in their house, pick up a second one and put it in a bin. Little things like that keep our shelves full.

Currently about 110 families are coming through the doors every month.

"Recognizing the economic times it is something we have come to except and  and something we are working with," she said.

And Fifield is grateful that they have never had to turn away someone in need.

The Foothills Bisons, the Highwood Mustangs and the RCMP have all recently had fundraisers for the food bank.
