A High River girl has been chosen as a National Finalist for the Miss Teen Canada Globe Beauty Pageant in Toronto.

16-year old Chantel Wiebe says it all started with a post she saw on Facebook.

"One of the winners from last year posted, saying they were looking for girls to compete in this summers competition. So I sent in my information to her, and she sent it to headquarters in Toronto. They called me for a phone interview, and emailed me about two weeks later saying I was a national finalist."

She says the judging focuses on four main areas swim suit, interview, evening gown and talent.

Wiebe says her talents are sign language and reading and writing her own poetry.

She says beauty and appearance are one aspect of the pageant but there's a lot more to it than just that.

"I think the main thing they judge you on is your personality and how you react in public to things. Beauty is a part of it but not the most important part."

She says if she wins, she'll have a busy schedule.

"The winner gets a cash prize as well as she gets to represent Canada internationally. The pageant will pay for the winner to travel to international pageants to represent Canada, which is very exciting."

She says the cash prize is $5,000.

Wiebe heads to Toronto August 3rd, and says she'll do her best to represent and asks for everyone's support by voting for her online.
