A large number of Calgary Homeowners have been coming forward recently with stories of nightmarishly high water bills, with no recourse but to pay them.

Can that happen in High River?

The short answer is it's possible, but the Town's Manager of Operational Services Eugene Lund says it's highly unlikely.

And he says if it does, homeowners are covered.

"We do have a policy in place that's referred to as the "water billing anomalies policy." In a nutshell what it states is that a resident, businesses or property owner experience a very high or unusual bill, they can submit a formal request to the Town to adjust that bill to an amount equal to average water consumption over the previous two years."

The Town also adds in a statement:

"The formal request may need to be presented at a Council meeting in order to adjust the bill."

Lund says in his time in the job he's never seen a situation with a billing anomaly come up.

He's also quick to point out the policy covers anomalies only.

So, if you actually use an extraordinarily high amount of water in a given month or two, expect your water bill to reflect that.

And expect to have to pay it.
