The Heritage History Advisory Board in High River is looking for some help with deciding what to do with the Town Farm house in McLaughlin Meadows.

The home, one of High River's most significant historic sites, is a sandstone building in McLaughlin Meadows, behind the outdoor rink.

An open house was held last weekend, but if you didn't have a chance to get to it you can still fill in an online survey.

Kyle Jantzen Chair of the Heritage History Advisory Board says the feedback from the community has been great so far.

"The farm goes back a long ways," said Jantzen. "It is from the very earliest days of High River and now everything has changed. Most of the Town Farm is gone and what we are trying to do is figure out what good uses could we put this nice old building to."

The building dates back to 1896 and was part of a network of stopping houses between Fort Benton, Montana, Fort Macleod and Calgary.

There was once a post office, school and even a race track in the area.

When the McLaughlin Meadows subdivision was being built plans were drawn up for a large part around the site but they never came to be.

Jantzen said part of the plan needs to include what to do with the green space.

"What do we do with this area right around it, and how do we turn it into something good for the community and good for preserving this bit of history."

Some of the suggestions have included making the house an artist retreat, a tea house, a meeting facility or a warm up shack for skating.

"We just want to hear from the community," Jantzen said.
