The High River Legion's Poppy Fund had another banner year.

Poppy Donations Committee Chair, Louise Hughes says Foothills residents were very generous with their poppy buying leading up to this year's Remembrance Day.

"In fact we got a grand total from all the poppy boxes of $28,750 and another $2,675 on individual or corporate donations."

Hughes says it's pretty tough for people to just walk by veterans and others without buying a poppy.

"We pull at the heartstrings. We've got the cadets and scouts out helping on the weekends when they can. And of course our veterans. Although some of the older ones are not able to anymore. It's not that they're not here, it's just difficult for them to sit in the stores."

Hughes says since a lot of the donations they get are in change, she put plenty of the Legion members to work each morning rolling the change before taking it to the bank.
