As construction season begins to wrap up, the Town of High River is putting the finishing touches on a few projects before the end of the season.

Manager of Engineering Services for the Town of High River, Kailee Erdman, says the long awaited re-opening of Centre Street Bridge should be happening next month.

"It is proceeding on time, and on schedule with no concerns, with the anticipation of it opening in mid October. As long as we don't have any unforeseen circumstances, or the weather turns on us, we should be able to proceed on time and on schedule."

The re-opening of Centre Street Bridge will enable both lanes to be active once again, making for happier drivers who've spent the Summer running the gauntlet of alternating traffic over the two lane bridge trying to go from one end of High River to the other.

Construction crews have been working since Spring to build a floodgate on the bridge, as part of the Town's flood mitigation and prevention strategy.

Erdman also says completion of underground utility and paving work on Macleod Trail, just wrapped up for the year on Friday, September 21.

"Macleod Trail is now open, paving has now been completed, so we replaced curbs and we had to open the roads up to get to the underground structure and utilities. Construction crews worked on all main underground utilities damaged by the flood such as the water, sewage and storm water utilities. It's open now, but of course work will still take place in the boulevard and with any third party utilities, and cleanup will also be taking place."

Once that work is done, the final lift to the pavement will be done in two years.
