High-speed fibre optic internet access is an important piece of infrastructure that the Town of High River needs.

The topic came up at the Chamber lunch last week and President Steven Muth says it will take a partnership of several groups to make it a reality.

"High River has to be competitive," said Muth. "And we have to be able to attract the new types of businesses to town, engineering firms those kind of firms, and they require solid internet access and fibre is the only way we can get that competitive edge."

Muth says it will take a big group of partners coming together to work with the town of High River to make it happen.

"I think the Town has to play a very important part in the infrastructure somehow to ensure that the infrastructure is safe and solid and affordable."

Muth says the business community also has to step up and realize the benefit fibre internet will have and make sure they participate.

"High River needs fibre optic access for our business community and it has to happen sooner rather than later and it is excellent that the Town of High River is taking a proactive roll to make that happen."
