As expected High River Town Council has voted to get out of the "On-It" transit program as soon as they can.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says it just wasn't working for a number of reasons.

"There's a lot of pieces with that. With the Calgary Regional Partnership shutting down, we don't see this thing really continuing much longer anyway's. But we just wanted to be clear it's not working for the Town of High River and we kind of want to get out of it as soon as possible."

He says he was never a fan of the concept.

"I was the biggest sceptic when this all started right. And it's to do with the fact that the "On-It" program was not a flexible enough service that just took you wherever, whenever. The issue is that is it took you an hour and twenty minutes to get to South Calgary."

Snodgrass says with limited ridership and rising costs it wasn't a viable option for the Town to continue putting money into.

The two years pilot project wraps up in October, but Snodgrass is hoping to be out of the deal by the end of March.
