High River RCMP have arrested a man they and the Okotoks Mounties had leading them on a high speed chase Tuesday, July 31.

Okotoks RCMP Staff Sergeant, Dwayne Helgeson, says the man fled after being pulled over near Okotoks late Tuesday afternoon on the suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.

Helgeson says that's where their dash cam's came in handy.

"We had some pretty good pictures, some pretty good details of him and the vehicle he was in. The next day (Wednesday, August 1), once again thanks to the citizens of the rural area, called in a suspicious person walking on the roadway. The investigation led us (High River RCMP) out to that area, and with some more follow up we did locate the person as well, the stolen vehicle was also located."

Michael Hautala, of Golden B.C., is facing a long list of charges, including possession of stolen property, possession of a prohibited weapon, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and several other traffic safety offences.

Helgeson says they received plenty of help from the public both during the chase and in finally making the arrest, and he urges residents to always call them when they see something suspicious.
