A small explosion occurred on a Highway 2 off-ramp just before Christmas, caused by what the High River RCMP believe to be a firework.

The incident occurred on the morning of December 23, when a driver in the area was using the off-ramp from 498 avenue, exiting onto Highway 2 Northbound, when they noticed a small burning object on the ramp.

When the driver went to stomp out the flame, the object exploded, causing damage to the occupants vehicle.

In addition, the explosion caused two minor grass fires, which were doused by the High River Fire Department.

A few witnesses in the area at the time of the event, noted an SUV of unknown colour or model, along with a light coloured Sedan, however it is unknown whether these vehicles were involved in the placing of the object.

The RCMP do not suspect the object was deliberately placed to cause harm, but are looking for any tips or information from the public.
