The High River RCMP want to give the public a better idea of what they're up to, and what and where crimes are being committed in town.

High River RCMP Staff Sergeant Robin Alexander says it's already being done in St. Albert with the plan to roll it out province wide.

Our headquarters would like to roll out what they are calling the "Public Facing Crime Map" in all the communities we police. With the goal of raising awareness of what's going on in each community and what types of crimes are occurring."

Alexander says they'll update the map regularly.

"This map will be populated by us on a daily basis, except weekends. It will contain certain crime types, only related to property offences. It won't contain assaults and that sort of thing. The goal here of course is to raise awareness as to what's going on in your community. What types of crimes and hopefully serve as a crime prevention tool as well."

Alexander says no specific addresses will be used on the map, just general areas.

He says they're just working out the details with the Town to have some space on their website.
