The Town of High River is hiring a consultant to go through 100 years of bylaws and policies, so they can weed out anything that's no longer needed or relevant anymore.

Town Manager Tom Maier says the project which originally began in 2016, was unfinished and had $44,000 leftover in that budget.

That money will now be used to review 2,767 bylaws and 55 policies on the books.

"Council had earmarked some dollars for a bylaw review project," says Maier. "The Town over the last 100 and some odd years has passed a lot of bylaws. Some of them are out of date, some of them are no longer required."

He says they'll be repealing or eliminating the bylaws that are no longer required and will be cleaning up some of the others.

"Things change whether it's animals or traffic or community standards."

Maier says it hasn't been done in a long time and they're sure to find some interesting bylaws from the past.

The project is expected to take six months to a year to complete.
