Albertans laced up their runners on Wednesday February 6 to join in on Winter Walk Day.

The event is held annually by SHAPE Alberta, and helps communities stay fit; even during extreme bouts of cold like the one we've been experiencing over the last few weeks.

Recreation Administration & Programming Supervisor at the Rec-Plex Tracy Morgan says High River performed very well.

"High River did awesome, we had 5624 minutes. It was very busy here on Wednesday and this track was so well used, we're ecstatic with the numbers. In 2017 we had about 1900 minutes so we've more than doubled those minutes."

SHAPE Alberta has yet to officially release the numbers from around the province, but Morgan say's she's proud of High River for the turnout and dedication.
