For a lot of High River retailers, the Christmas shopping season is make or break.

Angela Piovesana, who own's the Red Bag on 1st Street West, says they depend a lot on the money they make to sustain them after the holidays.

"It's a big percentage of the year and because we kind of amp up the buying for this time of year, it's important for us to turn over the product too, and we try to focus on things that can be Christmas Gifty."

Piovesana, says people will be surprised to hear most of her shoppers aren't local.

"We've actually been asking people as they come in, "So, where are you from?" And I would say at least 70 per cent are coming from Calgary, Okotoks and the surrounding area."

She says lack of local shopping may be just as simple as because more and more people are choosing to shop online instead of going to brick and mortar stores.
