Those who donated $5,000 or more to the High River Disaster Relief Fund will be recognized at a wine and cheese get together held by the town. This week Councillor Emile Blokland suggested the idea as a way for the mayor tell the donors how far the town has come in the past three years with the help they've received.

"The response was as I'd hoped. We're all very grateful, council and the community as well for all the help we've received during the flood, not only from the volunteers but also those that contributed funds for our disaster relief fund as well. I think this is an appropriate way to recognize a lot of those donors."

He suggested the special event to expand on Community Donations Advisory Committee Chair Bev Warner's idea of sending them pictures of the old train bridge.

"Also to bring them to the community for an evening, perhaps a wine and cheese get together with council and the opportunity for the mayor to speak to these people, showing how far High River has come in the past three years from their generous donations and all the help we've received."

Blokland says following the 2013 flood he spoke with many groups about donating to the fund, and they came through in large amounts.

"During the season of 2013 after the flood I had the opportunity to speak to many events and groups across and around the area about the status of High River and the help that we needed and the opportunity for them to help us in ways including donating to our High River Disaster Relief Fund."

Around one million dollars was donated to the relief fund.
