The Foothills Highland Games have been postponed to next year.

Chair of the games, Dave Roe says the cancellation is disappointing.

"It was a really tough decision to have to make, but we want to be able to put on a quality show and we're running too short to attain that goal," Roe says. "We were at the Comp field and due to ongoing construction and issues at that field we were unable to use it this year and so we were looking at a new venue. We were looking at moving to John Paul II but with some site logistics and ongoing costs to make that field work, it just didn't become feasible."

He says the previous 17 years, starting in High River and then in Okotoks, have been very positive with great spectator attendance as well as support from sponsors and businesses, as well as the Highland Games competitors themselves.

The board will still be holding a Ceilidh July 29 using the event as a fundraiser for next year.
