It was a bright and early Saturday morning on January 12 for a few Highwood high school students and their parents, as they split up around High River, to gather bottles for a graduation fee fundraiser.

Parent to one of the students Tasha Habing says, it's a humble affair, but by combining their bottle drive with a few other fundraising initiatives throughout the year, they hope to put some money together to help out the graduation class of 2019.

"We're just heading around the community going door to door, and collecting bottles to take in and collect money to put towards the students grad."

With mounting costs such as ceremony fees and grad clothing, Habing says fundraisers like these help assure everyone can walk the stage without worry.

"Costs can be a little difficult for some more than others, so fundraisers like these are a good way for us to help offset the cost."

The bottle drive is just one of many different fundraisers the Highwood graduation class has planned throughout the year.
