Another local MLA is speaking out about proposed electoral boundary changes.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson says there seems to be a shift to more urban ridings and fewer in rural areas.

"It's unfortunate that what they're trying to do is keep the same number of seats but jam in a considerable amount of population growth, which to me doesn't make a lot of sense but it seems to be the rurals are the ones taking the biggest hit on this redistribution, " Anderson says.

He's pretty confident the Davisburg and Gladys Ridge areas will get put back into the Highwood riding after the commission suggested they be moved to the Chestermere riding.

He says there's absolutely no relationship between Davisburg and Chestermere.

"There's a substantial river there and one old rickety wooden bridge between them so I don't think it's a prudent move to consider moving that portion of the Chetermere constituency into that area," he says.

Anderson says moving High River out of the Highwood riding into Livingstone-Macloed also doesn't make sense, saying the commission is concentrating too much on the numbers and not the historical context and the geographical land he hopes they're malleable to making changes. He claims in some of the NDP ridings the commission was willing to go with a higher population number.

He'll make a presentation to the commission July 20.
