For the first time in 110 years, a historic home in Okotoks is open to the public.

The Lineham House at 33 Elma Street will open as Lineham House Galleries, a new art hub created by Cheryl Taylor and Janifer Calvez.

Cheryl Taylor, Co Owner and Proprietor with Lineham House Galleries, says she's over the moon to open the house to the public, which was built by the son of the founding family of Okotoks, WD Lineham.

"It was actually a complete fluke we got the house, it's more house and property than we looked at considering to buy, we were looking to buy for a gallery and had been looking for many years, and fell in love with this house and couldn't let it go."

Taylor shares all new Lineham House Galleries will carry the work of local and area artists curated in group shows.

"On the main floor we have two rooms that will be our formal galleries, and they will every two months cycle through work of a group of artists on a given theme. Everything from fine art, paintings, sculpture, jewellery, and print making, any medium really. We also have an associate gallery on the second floor that is being occupied by one of our associate artists Lori Somerville, so that has her work, and her passion for antiques in there as well."

She says her and Calvez have been dreaming of opening a gallery in Okotoks for years, and hopes residents will come out to not only enjoy art, but a piece of Okotoks' history too.

"It's been a long time coming, and a lot of work, we're really excited. Come check us out, support local artists, have a look at this amazing house, and a wonderful collection of art."

The gallery will also host small artist and writer talks, art and creativity demos, and local talent features.
