High River's dreams of becoming the next Hockeyville came crashing down Saturday, March 31, when Lucan, Ontario took the crown.

High River Hockeyville Committee Chair, Melissa Pryor says the atmosphere at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex leading up to the announcement was electric.

"It was pretty amazing here. The community came together. If we to win this solely on community spirit, High River nailed it. The atmosphere here all weekend, and even tonight, was absolutely amazing."

Pryor, says finishing in the top four is still pretty good.

"It is, it's pretty amazing. $25,000 and we also have the NHL Players Association donating $10,000 to minor hockey, so that's a real boost for the kids."

In all, a record nine million people across the country voted for the next Hockeyville over the weekend.

No exact figures have been released.
