A rural homeowner is in police custody pending an investigation after they allegedly fired shots at suspected thieves.

Saturday, February 24 around 5:30 a.m. Okotoks RCMP responded to a complaint of shots fired at a rural residence.

According to RCMP the owner of the residence had seen two individuals rummaging through his vehicles.

While confronting the individuals, the homeowner fired an unknown number of shots, the suspects then fled the scene.

One man was later located with an injury to his arm and was taken to a local hospital to treat the non-life threatening injuries, the second individual has not been located at this time.

The investigation has now been taken over the General Forensic Investigation section, and Forensic Identification section.

Police remind citizens to refrain from any attempts to pursue or engage with suspicious individuals and to instead immediately report any incidents to police.
