UPDATE: Okotoks RCMP have made an arrest in connection to a threat made towards Holy Trinity Academy High School this morning.

Police say one youth was arrested after school staff received a complaint that threats had been made to commit an act of violence at HTA.

At 8:11 a.m. RCMP were informed that a youth from the community made a post to social media suggesting they were planning a violent act at the school.

HTA staff notified parents the school would be closed for the day and lockdown procedures would be in place as a precaution.

RCMP say they located the youth at their home before school began where they were arrested without incident.

Investigation continues and police won't be releasing the name of the individual who remains in custody.

Okotoks RCMP are thanking staff and administration at HTA as well as bus drivers, students and parents for their cooperation in today's response.

Holy Trinity Academy High School in Okotoks is on lockdown Friday morning.

According to a post to the faculties Facebook page a threat was made over the internet to the school.

The nature of the threat is not clear.

In the post from HTA Principal and Math Teacher Carmen Ostifichuk she urges parents not to send their kids to school today.

Lynsay McMullan, news reporter, was at the school and says parents and students were being turned away.

"Police cruisers are parked out front of the school, while staff are on site as well. Both Police and staff are turning away people looking to drop their kids off."

Those that were already enroute by school bus were instead taken to John Paul II Colleguate School in Okotoks.

Parents are able to pick up their children from JPII if they wish, however there will be a sign out process as staff are trying to take attendance.  

HTA is the only school in CTR under lockdown and no schools in the Foothills School Division were affected.

RCMP have confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection to the threat.
